Pigs: Canada's most authentic Pink Floyd tribute band formed in the winter of 2008. Former members of indie band Hello Clarice, K.C. Hingley (bass), Josh Szczepanowski (lead guitar), and Michael Quirke (drums), joined keyboardist Adam Basterfield and rhythm guitarist David Dutkewich in a rehearsal hall in Victoria B.C. Six months later, having acquired a talented duo of female backup vocalists, Pigs performed their first show at Soprano's bar in Victoria to a sold-out, standing-room-only crowd. Ever since, the band has produced the best possible re-creation of Pink Floyd's music. Focused on the band's hey-day in the 1970s, and such classic albums as Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall, Wish You Were Here and Animals, the band constantly works with the abundant material available, drawing from Floyd's studio and live performances, and truly live up to their boast of being Canada's "most authentic" Floyd tribute. Authenticity, to the members of Pigs, means looking, sounding, and dressing like Pink Floyd. Each member "becomes" their Floyd counterpart. The instruments and gear are, as near as possible, authentic to the band's original gear. Every detail is considered, right down to the types of amps, the band uniform, and the colours of the guitars. Pigs' authenticity is unparalleled: at a Pigs show, fans lose themselves in the smoke and lights, and imagine the real Pink Floyd on stage, circa 1977. Pigs form their look and sound around Pink Floyd's at their creative peak in the 1970s and early 1980s. Though they cover material from the '60s and '90s, they play mainly material from the band when it included Waters, Gilmour, Mason, and Wright. With the passing of Richard Wright in 2008, fans of Pink Floyd lost hope of ever again seeing their favourite band re-united. Pigs offers the next best thing: an authentic look back into the breathtaking past of one of the world's most timeless bands.
